Heritage Awards

The Western Australian Heritage Awards was established in 1992 to recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation and the promotion of heritage in Western Australia.
The Awards are held annually and are widely acknowledged as showcasing excellence in revitalising heritage places, setting standards for future interpretation, conservation and adaptive reuse of places on the State Register of Heritage Places.
The 2012 Western Australian Heritage Awards were held at Government House Ballroom on 17 April in the presence of His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker AO CVO QC, Governor of Western Australia.
The awards recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse, tourism, interpretation and promotion in WA, and honour individuals and organisations whose work has resulted in significant achievements in the promotion and conservation of our rich cultural heritage.
This year, outstanding Western Australian conservation projects will be showcased in the Asia-Pacific region through cooperation between the Office of Heritage and UNESCO.
Winners and high commendation recipients in categories 6, 7 and 10 of the 2012 Western Australian Heritage Awards will be shortlisted for nomination to the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, with Heritage Council endorsement and agreement of the project owners.
Now in its 20th year, the awards attract extensive media interest, ensuring that the industry, government, owners and community identify winners with the provision of innovative and best practice standards.
