As an active community member and accomplished story teller, Ian’s passion for the history of Western Australia’s highly significant timber industry in the South West of the State has found expression through his volunteer work with the Manjimup Historical Society. The judges commended Ian’s commitment to passing on his knowledge to the next generation.
Ian has also been instrumental in developing the Working Life Heritage Trail which encourages interest in the working life of pioneers and promotes historic sites across the South West.
Ian Wilson has had a lifelong passion for heritage and volunteering, and is committed to ensuring the culture of the South West region is not lost.
He is a great advocate for the history of the southern timber industry and the role it played in shaping the lives of Western Australia’s pioneers. Ian also works to conserve WA’s heritage, and has worked tirelessly to ensure the conservation of the timber industry in the Manjimup and Deanmill region.
Ian is enthusiastic about passing his knowledge onto younger generations and believes in empowering people with the skills needed to research and document their own family histories.
