Dr Dorothy Erickson
Over the past 40 years, Dr Dorothy Erickson’s commitment and passion as an artist, curator, historian, author, and lecturer has seen her make a significant contribution to the documentation of all aspects of Western Australia’s cultural heritage, including built and moveable heritage.
Dorothy Erickson's passionate work as a curator, historian, author, critic, and lecturer has seen 40 years of commitment to documenting Western Australia's portable cultural heritage. She volunteers her professional expertise to research, document, advise, and collect for public institutions, organisations and private individuals to preserve and promote Western Australia's moveable heritage.Dorothy’s work has included advising institutions, writing books and articles, giving lectures and organising exhibitions. Her most recent written work, Inspired by Light and Land: Designers and Makers in Western Australia: 1829-1969 was shortlisted for the Premier’s book Award in 2016.
A passionate local heritage advocate, Annabel Witham has spent 15 years transforming the State Registered Jones’s Buildings, an intact group of 1911 shops, into a popular café, restaurant, winery, arts and craft gallery, and bed and breakfast. Annabel was the driving force behind the refurbishment of the Broomehill Shire Hall for ongoing community use.
Annabel and her husband Jim were originally farmers who took on a big challenge at the time of their retirement. The couple bought the State Registered former Jones Building, a terrace of shops in Broomehill.
Annabel and Jim have dedicated the past 15 years to carefully restoring the property to a high degree of authenticity, retaining and restoring features such as the original Jones store shelving.
They have opened a well-known café and restaurant, the Henry Jones Winery and café in one of the shops, which is popular with tourists and locals of the Great Southern region, many of whom travel large distances to visit the restaurant. The have also restored the original bakery and bakehouse, and continuing work on the other shops within the complex.Annabel has also been instrumental in the conservation of the Broomehill Hall and is dedicated to the conservation and promotion of the heritage of the region.
